Vera Ann Ludwigsen

Vera Ann Ludwigsen, born on July 31, 1932, in Racine, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2026, in Dousman, Wisconsin. She was a remarkable woman whose life was characterized by her dedication to her family, her profession, and her community.

Vera was the daughter of Anna and Rudolf (Rudy) Cerny, who were immigrants from Czechoslovakia and instilled in her a profound sense of pride in her heritage. She was part of the Sokol Milwaukee and participated in the gymnastics program from the tender age of five, where her love for community began to flourish. Throughout her life, Vera excelled academically, earning a master’s degree, and worked as a devoted librarian in the field of education, fostering a love of reading and learning in countless students.

In 1961, Vera married her beloved husband, Ken, whom she met at his father's filling station, where their journey together began. The couple resided in Hartland, Wisconsin, where they raised their son Greg, nurturing a family atmosphere filled with love and adventure. Vera and Ken shared a passion for travel, exploring all 50 states and Canada, and creating lasting memories through camping and outdoor activities. Vera also had a soft spot for dogs. She had the honor and privilege to sponsor the guide dog, Luddy, in training for the Guiding Eyes for the blind.

Vera will be missed dearly by her sister-in-law Judith Follendorf, her honorary daughter, Beth Evans, and many nieces and nephews and so many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, her son, Greg, parents Anna and Rudy Cerny, brothers William and John, and sister-in-law Barbara.

Thank you to the staff of Aurora Summit, Three Pillars and Allay Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days, as well as to the many friends and family members who provided support throughout her life especially at the end of life.

Per Vera’s request, there will be no formal services.
