Thomas Gregory Schober, 77, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on May 31, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Tom was born to Theodore and Rosalie Schober of New Berlin, Wisconsin. He graduated from New Berlin High School in 1966 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Marquette University. He continued his education at Marquette Law School, earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence. He served his community as an attorney and CPA for 53 years.
Tom spent most of his career as the managing partner of Schober, Schober & Mitchell, SC, where he primarily practiced business and corporate law. He was also co-founder of Schober & Gauerke, CPA where he practiced accounting. With his professional expertise and academic interests, he taught accounting at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha and tax law at Marquette University Law School. He answered legal questions on a monthly call-in talk radio show on WTKM Hartford. Tom served in the U.S. Army National Guard for six years after law school. He also sat on the Waukesha County Airport Commission Board from 1994 to 2008, playing an instrumental role in transforming the facility into a modern general aviation airport.
Tom was a family man above all. He and his wife, Patty, raised their family together in Oconomowoc, WI where they have resided for the last 45 years. Tom and Patty took pride in watching their family grow at their cherished 73-acre wooded farm, nestled along the Bark River. He loved creating golf cart paths, fishing and ice skating on the pond, raising animals, and growing pumpkins, Christmas trees, and an orchard. Over time, they created many wonderful memories with their children and grandchildren. Some favorites include road trips, weekends at the family cottage, pontoon boat rides, and family drives ending in an ice cream cone together. Tom was a gifted story teller, and his family will always remember how he shared anecdotes of his adventures from childhood. His strong Christian faith was central to his life, and it inspired the lives of his family.
Beyond his professional life, Tom was a man of many passions. He loved his hobbies and was a life-long learner. He earned his pilot’s license in 1979, flying many aircrafts over the years. His favorite being a 1941 J-4 Piper Cub that he owned and flew often into his self-built landing strip, Bark River Airport, located right in his front yard. He delighted in giving rides to his kids and friends. He and Patty hosted a fly-in and craft fair at their farm for several years, sharing his love of flight with the next generation through free flights with the EAA Young Eagles Program. He was an avid fisherman who treasured fishing trips to Canada with several of his kids and grandkids. He had a gift and a zest for learning languages, studying Spanish, Latin, Italian, German, and Kiswahili. Tom was a talented musician, playing accordion, ukulele, guitar, piano, and organ. He enjoyed nature through golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, birding, and the beauty of sunsets and sunrises. Woodworking, computers and technology were also interests he pursued his whole life.
He is survived by his dear wife, Patty (Farrell) Schober; his children, Wendy (Paul) Darling, Sara (David) Shin, Sarah Lehmer, Sonya (Ted Johnson) Schober, Christy (Greyson) Colvin, and Marc Schober; and his grandchildren, Chloe and Emma, Miles and Sadie, Noah and Paige, Palmer and Hudson, and Jack and Annie, children of Marc and Katie Schober; and his siblings, T. Michael (Barbara) Schober, Susan (Robert) Kinosian, John (Cheryl) Schober, Stephen (Lynn) Schober, Marilyn (David) Lefaivre, and Laurie (Patrick) Carnahan.
