Sylvia Jean Blomgren Kreutzmann

Sylvia Kreutzmann passed away on Monday morning April 21st at age 87, surrounded by family, friends, and her Pastor.

Sylvia was a “giver” her whole life. She had a loving, giving heart and was interested and involved in many circles. She had a great many dear friends, and will be sorely missed.

Sylvia Jean was born in Madison Wisconsin on January 6, 1938, to Irene Dorothy (nee Noren) and Leonard “Gus” Blomgren. She grew up in Crestwood, with her two younger siblings Susan (Ken Sawdo) and Erick (the late Marilyn), with whom she remained very close her entire life. From early on as a child Sylvia knew that she wanted to be a nurse, and after graduating from West High School in 1957, went off to college at nearby Madison General School of Nursing, earning her 3-year Nursing degree in 1960. Her experiences at the Lutheran General program would be formative and it was there that she met many of her most cherished friends, re-uniting with them regularly.

She married Jim Kreutzmann in 1960 and had 3 boys: Kurt (Barb Heinze), Karl, and Kris (Kristin Kass). A divorce meant that she would be a single mother raising her 3 unruly boys in a small lake home filled with love, in the town of Summit. During this time, she devoted her career efforts towards the mental health of youth. She was the Head Nurse of the adolescent psychiatric unit at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, finally retiring in 2005 after a career of more than 40 years, during which she even went back to school for a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, graduating from Alverno College in 1987.

Meanwhile, those 3 unruly boys would grow up and eventually marry and give to her the loves of life; her grandchildren. “Nana”, or Gramma Sylvia took her role of Grandmother very seriously and loved on her grandkids all of her life, taking great interest and pleasure in what they were up to. Emma, Jeremy, Dan Blauw (Colleen Lahart), Sydney (fiancé Daniel Muller), Travis (fiancée Chelsey Tate), Tess, Kathryn and Alexandra are all the better for it and have many fond memories of her. She also enjoyed her recent role of Great Grandma to Dan & Colleen’s son Kieran.

Sylvia loved travel, and taking trips with friends and family to places including Northern Wisconsin, Door County, Washington State, Hilton Head, Alaska, and Sweden. Sylvia was very proud of her Swedish heritage and was an active member of the Swedish American Historical Society.

Sylvia had a great faith and love of God, and helping to do the work of her church was a passion of hers. She was a long time member of Christ The King Lutheran Church in Delafield where she was very active in Caring, Healing, and Outreach Ministries. She was a good and faithful servant indeed.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be scheduled for June 14 at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Delafield, with a visitation from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., service at 3 p.m., followed by a dinner afterward. Please share any memories that you have to the memory wall at www.pagenkopf.com. Donations in Sylvia's memory may be made to Christ The King Lutheran Church, Delafield Wisconsin.
