Sherman Myers Dr.

Dr. Sherman Clifford Myers, M.D. Lieutenant (Medical Corps), United States Navy, Retired Born January 24, 1921 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Ralph and Grace (Allen) Myers. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn (Blanchet) Myers, daughters Carol Kline (Robert) of Jacksonville, Florida; Kathy Myers (Peter Forster) of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and Monte Phillips (Charles) of Clarksburg, Maryland; niece Claudette Hatcher (Charles) of Prichard WV; grandchildren Justin Klug (Tia) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Evan Klug of Chicago, Illinois; Elizabeth Zak (Kyle) of Appleton, Wisconsin; Megan Forster of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; great grandchildren Adeline and Ezra Klug, and extended family and friends. Dr. Myers proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II as a Musician First Class with Navy Band #18 aboard the flagship USS Indianapolis (CA-35). He continued his education through the Navy’s V-12 program, completing pre-med and medical school at DePauw University and the University of Mississippi, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from Western Reserve University in 1949. Recalled to active duty during the Korean War, he served as a commissioned medical officer assigned to Mine Task Force 1, serving aboard USS Endicott (DMS-35) and USS Thompson (DMS-38). Dr. Myers’ legacy of caring and compassion spanned a medical career of over 35 years. Following general practice, he completed residency in anesthesiology at VAMC Wood, Wisconsin, and held staff positions at St. Mary’s Hospital and Milwaukee Children’s Hospital from 1956 to 1976. After retiring from private practice, he became a Chief of Staff trainee at VAMC Wood, Wisconsin, and went on to serve as Chief of Staff, VAMC Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Chief of Staff, VAMC Fayetteville, Arkansas, until his retirement in 1986. He was a Plankowner in the United States Navy Memorial, a Mason and Shriner and also belonged to the American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice. Memorial visitation for Sherman will be held Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. with Military Honors to be preformed at 6:00 P.M. all to be held at Pagenkopf Funeral Home.
