Raymond Good, age 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 in Summit, Wisconsin. Raymond, fondly known as Ray to family and friends, was born in Buffalo, NY on April 11, 1929 to John and Sophie Good.
Raymond is survived by his three sons Mark (Elizabeth) Good, John (Jocelyn) Good and Kenneth (Dana) Good; 6 grandchildren Christopher, Michael, Katherine, Kyle, Alexandra, and Courtney McNeill; along with 2 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, and his parents.
Ray was a special, renaissance man with unbounded energy, zest for life, land love for family and friends. He was the first American born son of John Good, who passed through Ellis Island, immigrating to the United States from the Ukraine. Ray was taught about his heritage and customs, including the intricate art of pysanka (Ukrainian Easter egg decorating) – a beautiful tradition which has now been passed to 3 new generations of Goods.
Along with his brother Phil, Ray pursued higher education at the University of Buffalo, earning a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1951. During his college years, Ray was president of Kappa Signa Kappa, his honorary fraternity, and Chairman of the Junior Prom. After college, Ray went to work for General Electric in Schenectady, NY. Soon afterwards he became enamored with law and began going to Indiana University Law school at nights graduating with his law degree in 1960. It is during this time that Ray and his family made Indianapolis, Indiana their home.
Ray was immensely proud of his law career with many achievements. His first position was with Winingham & Willsey, a small Indianapolis law firm. There he met Bill Winingham and the two later left started their own law firm, Winningham and Good. After the sudden death of his partner, Ray then went into practice with Vernon Bertram at Good & Bertram which later became Good, Bertram and Schnorr. Subsequently, Ray practiced law at Locke Reynolds and finished his career at Lewis & Kappes in July, 2011.
In 1980, Ray became President of the Indiana Bar Association. During this time, he helped establish the Lawyer Assistance Program to provide information, assistance and support for attorneys struggling with substance abuse, mental health challenges, gambling addictions, and/or temporary disabilities. It is for this and his many years of service in the community that he was honored with the Professionalism Award by the Indianapolis Bar Association in 2011.
After the death of Lillian, the love of his life, and having retired from law, Ray moved to Dousman, WI to be close to his son and his family who live in Wisconsin. As an independent living resident, Ray became known as, “The Egg Man” because he made and generously gifted Ukrainian eggs to many of his friends, residents and staff. While there, he continued his passion of stamp collecting and with the encouragement of another resident, took art classes and became fond of watercolors. It is said that during his time at Three Pillars Senior Living Community, that Ray did over 800 watercolors, most of which were displayed and given to friends, family, and staff at his communities.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Ray’s facilities along with his doctors and caregivers over the past years.
In lieu of flowers, Ray hopes that you’ll consider making a donation to one of these or other charitable organizations:
