Peter John Tellier passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, after a nearly four-year battle with cancer. He was at home with his wife, Terese, and daughters, Margaret (Tyler Krug) and Mary (Nick Jensen), by his side.
Peter spent his final moments at their Golden Lake home, which held so much of his life’s story—a home he had lived in since 1979, where he and Terese were married in 1986, and where his daughter Margaret later married her husband, Tyler, in 2018. It was where he and Terese raised their children and pups, and it was a place filled with decades of memories.
In the final months of his life, Peter had the joy of meeting his first and only grandchild, August Peter, who carries his grandfather’s name. This brought him immense happiness and a sense of legacy that meant so much to him.
After earning both his BBA and MBA from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, Peter began a 40-year career in public accounting. He became the youngest partner at Deloitte, Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte) and later continued his work as a tax consultant with SVA Certified Public Accountants until his retirement in July 2015.
Deeply grateful for the opportunities he received, Peter remained committed to giving back to his profession and alma mater. He founded the Jerry Leer/In Memory of Roy H. Tellier Sr. Accounting Scholarship 42 years ago. The scholarship has since awarded more than $1.3 million to over 200 deserving students, a lasting testament to Peter’s dedication to education and opportunity.
Besides his family and the scholarship, Peter’s third love was golf. An avid golfer, Peter could often be found on the course at Chenequa Country Club enjoying the game alongside his many close buddies. After a round (or two) you could find him posted up at the bar drinking a Transfusion and playing bar dice. Those days on the course were among his happiest.
Peter was truly one of a kind. If you were family or a close friend, his loyalty was unsurpassed. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Peter’s “19th Hole” celebration will be held on May 17th at Chenequa Country Club beginning at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, Peter requested that any gifts, large or small, be directed to the Leer/Tellier Accounting Scholarship. Please follow the link below to donate.
