Peter Richard Larson “Peter the Greeter,” entered Eternal Life as he went to be with His Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at his home in Oconomowoc with his beloved wife Patti at his side.
Peter is survived by his loving wife Patti Jean Larson (Volckmann); his children Kersten, P.J., Paige; and Jayson Hyman and Rachel Hyman; grandchildren Luke, Jack, Trey, Reed and Emme.
He is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Violet Larson; brother’s Tom, Jerry and David.
Peter graduated from Waukesha South High School, where he played on the varsity basketball team. He then served in the U.S. Army, where he was honorably discharged. He graduated from Ripon College with a degree in Communications. Peter began his sales career with 3M company. After 10 years with 3M, Peter joined his father in business at Home Supply and Building Materials in Waukesha.
Peter loved to travel, planning cross-country trips on his Harley with his wife Patti. He also enjoyed boating, where he got his nickname “Captain.” He was also an avid Badger and Packer fan.
He was an active member of Elmbrook Church and served faithfully as a greeter for many years. He volunteered with Feed My Sheep and did food delivery for the Waukesha County ADRC, Meals on Wheels program. Peter attended the Friday morning men’s Bible study and the Friday Fellowship Seniors, where he also volunteered as a greeter. Peter looked forward to the annual No Regrets Men Discipleship Gathering every year. Peter, known as “Peter the Greeter,” faithfully continued his greeting ministry at Lake Country Elmbrook Church for the past 10 years.
Peter walked in faith and the light of God’s love. Believing God’s promises, trusting Jesus and growing in grace. He began each day in his meditations, reading his Bible and praying for all those family and friends he loved. He believed with all his heart, Jesus is his Lord and Savior and claimed Jeremiah 29:11 as his life verse - "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Peter embraced the gift of hospitality God placed on his life. He looked for ways to extend to others the love and saving hope the Lord has given him.
Hebrews 12:2 – “Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
As Peter would always say in closing “Keep your eyes on the cross.”
A visitation will take place on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Elmbrook Church (777 S. Barker Rd, Brookfield WI 53045) from 12:30PM-1:30PM with a celebration of life to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Heart Association in honor of Peter are welcome.
