Paul Giblin

Paul Giblin, 58, of Mukwonago, passed away in late May from natural causes, following a long illness.

Paul grew up in Oconomowoc, and he loved to reminisce about growing up there, the many wonderful teachers we had in the Oconomowoc schools, and all of the fun we had hanging out on the Oconomowoc River with family and friends. He graduated from Oconomowoc High School and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater before embarking on a long sales career, culminating in late 2024.

Paul was known for his biting sense of humor, along with a kind soul and big heart. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as cooking and eating great food. He especially enjoyed grilling and barbeque. He was a certified master judge with the Kansas City BBQ Society, a certified judge in the Steak Cookoff Association, and judged for the Rib Cookoff Association, as well as other events. He often referred to members of the BBQ community as a second family.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Alison Giblin; his ex-wife and friend, Kristin Erickson Giblin; his brother, Robert (Debbie) Giblin; and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Helen (Bobbi) Giblin, and a baby sister, Barbara.

Paul would prefer to be remembered for his sense of humor and love of food, so there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life for family members and friends is being planned for later this summer.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the “Wisconsin BBQ Posse Scholarship” in the memory of Paul Giblin, at Fox Valley Technical College Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 2277, 1825 N. Bluemound Drive, Appleton, WI 54912-2277. Donate online at fvtc.edu/foundation (select "other" for designation and type Wisconsin BBQ Posse in the "In Memory" field).
