Michael Charles Schaefer

Michael Charles Schaefer “Schaefer” age 86, passed away peacefully with this family by his side on September 29, 2026. Born on February 6, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Michael was a cherished son to Walter and Gertrude Schaefer.

Schaefer is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Barbara Bleecker; his beautiful daughters Suzy (David) Foster, Sally (Jay) Schwartz and Shari (Brad) Roush; proud grandfather to Bailey (Dustin) Mitchell, Nicholas (Lauren) Foster, Hailey (Gus) Dougherty, Andrew (Dianna) Schwartz, Hannah (Michael) Kusel and Holly Roush (Mikey Ludwig); great-grandchildren Andre Schwartz and Baby Boy Dougherty due in December; along with many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Nancy and her husband Dennis Leonard.

A proud graduate of Pius XI High School in June of 1958, Schaefer demonstrated his commitment to service when he joined the Army in January 1959. He served honorably until March 1962, spending two years in France and earning a Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, Schaefer embarked on a fulfilling career as a Diesel Mechanic, dedicating 30 years to Peterbilt of WI before retiring.

Schaefer found joy in his hobbies. He cherished his time on the hobby farm, where he tended to his old Farmall tractors, horses and emus. He found peace during quiet moments spent in the woods, often accompanied by his trusty chainsaw. Schaefer also contributed to his community by delivering mail to residents at Shorehaven Tower.

With heartfelt gratitude the family would like to thank the in-home caregivers and the exceptional staff at the Labelle household.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Shorehaven Foundation or Pony Tales Refuge & Rehab in Schaefer’s name are welcome.
