Michael Edward Hagie passed peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. He was born on October 14, 1950 in Milwaukee, WI to Thomas and Lillian Hagie.
A resident of Genesee Depot for nearly 37 years, he also lived in Texas while in the Navy as a Jet Plane mechanic and Tulsa, Oklahoma where he met his wife, Crystal. After leaving the military, Mike purchased his own semi and became an over-the-road truck driver. Mike and Crystal bought their first house in 1978 on 95th Street in West Allis, the now famous Candy Cane Lane. Each Christmas, Mike would climb the large evergreen tree in the front yard to hang the lights which made the front page of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
When the family outgrew their capecod, Mike left the trucking business behind to start what would become a 30-year career with Briggs and Stratton in the Applications Engineering Department and moved the family to a 4-acre lot in Genesee Depot where they resided for 37 years and raised poultry, horses, and even a cow at one point. He loved riding horses, and it was a common sight as you drove down Highway 83 to see him and his daughter riding around the property. Mike was also a constant presence at his kids school sporting events and 4H programs. When the boys were old enough, he renewed his interest in hunting and found a new passion for target shooting for IPSIC and Cowboy Action. He is best known for his ability to fix, literally, anything but mainly vehicles (including his semi), small engines, and computers.
In retirement, Mike became an avid member of the Oconomowoc Sportsmens Club including 6 years as the Maintenance Foreman and also took on the leadership role for the Cowboy Action matches. During this time, he discovered new interests and talents included gunsmithing, leatherworking, teaching others firearm handling and safety, and ATVing. Most of all, he loved doing all these things, and more, with his family.
He enjoyed the family get togethers at the lake house in Exeland, visiting their son in nearby Couderay, and the annual hunting trips with his sons, grandchildren, and friends.
Over the years, Mike and Crystal opened their home to both family and friends when they needed a place to stay, even remodeling the dining into a bedroom for his parents for a time. Those who stayed with them found a loving and caring home and were considered part of the family.
Mike was a husband to one but a friend, a brother, and a father to many. He will truly be missed by all.
He is remembered in love by his wife of 50 years, Crystal, his 5 children, Kim (Nick), Doug (Staci), Joe, Tom (Jennifer), and Ross (Sarah), 8 grandchildren, his sisters, Eileen ‘Tina’ (Randy) and Danice (Amy), his brother, Richard, Aunt Shirley, nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded by his father, Thomas, mother, Lillian, brother, Patrick, and Uncle Jim.
In celebration of Mike's life, a visitation will take place on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Pagenkopf Funeral Home (2228 N. Silver Maple Lane, Oconomowoc, WI 53066) from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a service. A banquet will be held after the service to continue the celebration of Mike’s life.
