It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ellen Scarlata (nee Mehring), beloved mother and grandmother, who departed this life peacefully on February 16, 2026, at the age of 91. Mary was born on August 19, 1934, in Waterford, Wisconsin, to Ted and Ellen Mehring.
As an adult, Mary called home first in Chicago Illinois, where she married and raised her daughter. She later moved to Florida, where she lived for the better part of twenty years, and came back to Wisconsin in the early 2000’s. A gifted hairdresser, she touched the lives of many with her exceptional skills and kind spirit for more than 50 years. Her talents also included being an expert seamstress, making many prom dresses for her daughter, and special occasion outfits as well as sewing decorations for her home. She loved animals and cherished her pets.
Mary was young at heart. She loved cheering on the Brewers and watched almost every game. She also loved the Packers, and shared many game watching with her family. She was always up for a prank, and was a good sport at receiving pranks as well. She loved family parties and she also loved being razzed by her many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Ann Therese (Mark) Rapacz and grandson Ryan (Rachel) Rapacz. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Ellen Mehring and her siblings; Theodore (Bud) Mehring, Virginia (Larry) Dorsey, Larry (Chris) Mehring, Harold (Marlene) Mehring, Ann (Joe) Ross, Julie (Arnie) Himebauch. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Compassus Hospice for their care and support for Mary.
A celebration of Mary’s life will take place on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 10am-12 noon with lunch following at; Pagenkopf Funeral Home, 2228 Silver Maple Lane, Oconomowoc WI 53066
