Margaret (Peggy) Jean Szalanski passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 1, 2025. Peggy was born in North Lake, WI on October 6, 1942, to Lloyd and Dorothy Stapleton.
Peggy is survived by her children Kelly (Keith) Secord and Brette (Jenny) Szalanski; her grandchildren who were her greatest joy: Samantha, Lathen, Adam, Kaleb, Savannah and Addison along with a great-grandson Hayden. She came from a large family and was one of 10 children. She is survived by her youngest sister Cathy (Trink), Brother-in-law Gordy (Norma) Szalanski and many nieces, nephews, and cousins
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Mary Lou, Peter, Nancy, Terry, Morrie, Connie, Tommy and Dorothy Mae; nieces: Gail, Liz, Chris, Cindy and Mary Ann;Brother and Sister-in-Law: Jimmy & Judy Szalanski; her In-Laws: Henry and Cecilia Szalanski and her husband of 54 years, David.
The most important thing in Peggy’s life was family. It was important to her to be around when their children were young. Her position as the assistant chef at Oconomowoc High School was a job that could accommodate that. She and David ended their working careers at Lang in Delafield where they made lifelong friends. She also enjoyed the vacations they would go on to various tropical locations. She lost the love of her life 8 years ago and has missed him terribly. We have comfort knowing they are back together again.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Marquardt Manor for their care over the last couple of months, as we know she wasn’t always the easiest patient. As one of the nurses commented, “she was a spitfire!”
In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of your choice in Peggy’s name are welcome.
A Celebration of Life will take place on August 2, 2025, at the American Legion in Okauchee, N50W34750 E Wisconsin Avenue, Okauchee, WI 53069 from 11:00am-2:00pm.
