There are very few souls who enter your life and leave a lasting imprint on your heart. Lori Mommaerts was one of those rare people. Her constant smile, infectious laughter, and genuine kindness drew people in instantly. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, welcomed, and loved, earning her the title of “mom #2” to many of her children’s friends. Even through nearly a decade of fighting cancer, Lori faced every day with grace - never complaining, always smiling, and lifting the spirits of those around her.
While Lori fought cancer with quiet strength and unwavering positivity, it never defined her. She was so much more - a kind soul, a steady presence, and a source of warmth and encouragement to everyone she met. No matter what she endured, she remained in good spirits, choosing joy and compassion again and again.
Andy and Lori began dating shortly after high school, a love built off of friendship that would span decades. Ten years later, they officially tied the knot in Jamaica - one of her favorite places. Together, they welcomed two children and devoted the next 20 years of their lives to rainy soccer fields, cramped gymnasiums, and the countless moments that come with raising a family, always cheering from the sidelines.
Lori’s spirit and love live on through her husband, Andy, and her children, Zach (Tina) and Taylor Mommaerts, and her loyal canine companion, Zoe. She is also survived by her mother, Leanne, and her siblings: Cheryl (Vic) Schneider, Mary (Craig) Schiefelbein, Kristi (Jerry) Habanek, and Cobe (Kristen) Short.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jerrold, and her beloved nephews, Max and Rolf, whom she now joins in Heaven.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Summer 2026, with an official date to be announced in the new year. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have reached out with kind words, love, and fond memories of Lori. Your support has been deeply felt and appreciated.
