Julianne Sweeney Cakerice

July 26, 1942 – July 29, 2025

Julianne Sweeney Cakerice passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Kenmare, North Dakota, on July 26, 1942, Julianne lived a life rooted in love for her family and guided by music, faith, and devotion to her community.

She's survived by her children: Kelly Sweeney, Tracy Sweeney, Kathleen Sweeney (Michael Schroeder) and John Sweeney, grandson, Quinn Pitcher and preceded in death by her grandson, Tommy Sweeney Dunsizer. She’s also survived by her siblings Jean Farley, Kathleen Hutton, Mike Kelly, and Pat Kelly; her niece Alison Goldberg (Jake Goldberg).

A truly remarkable pianist, Julianne shared her musical gifts generously throughout her life. She spent many years as the beloved choir director at St. Bruno’s Church, playing for countless weddings, funerals, and church services. She also taught music at St. Bruno’s School, shaping young minds through piano lessons and classroom instruction. Her dedication to music left an indelible mark on her students and her faith community.

Julie was married to Thomas J. Sweeney for 31 years until his passing in 1994. Years later, she reconnected with Howard Cakerice, at her high school reunion, and they married in 2018. Howard passed away in 2022. Julie is also fondly remembered by Howard’s children Rochelle, Rachael, and Alan Cakerice, along with their children who became an extended part of our family.

Julianne’s life was a beautiful composition filled with grace, resilience, and deep warmth. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A Memorial service for Julie will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, with a visitation from 9:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM, all to take place at Pagenkopf Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to HAWS in Julie's honor.
