Joseph Gross died peacefully on September 4th, 2021 at Hartland Terrace hospice care surrounded by family. Joe suffered a stroke and died of a broken heart after losing Bernice, the love of his life and wife of 64 years, on May 19th of this year. Joe’s family moved from Kentucky to northern Wisconsin following the death of his father and he graduated from Crandon High School. Joe held many jobs and retired from Carnation Co. in Oconomowoc, a proud member of IBT local 695. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Grace (nee Spencer) Gross; step-father, Burt Haney; and siblings, Tom, George, Earl, Joy, Nona; also a daughter, JoAann Duckert; and two grandsons, Peter Zangerle and Ryan Gross. Two siblings survive Joe, Erma Evans and Hiram Haney. He is further survived by children, Jean (Art) Zangerle, Jeff Gross, John Gross, Jay (Linda) Gross, and Mary (Eric) VanLare; grandchildren, Leah (Chris) Kroll, Marie (Tim) LeRoy, AJ (Rebecca) Zangerle, Adam Gross, Natalie (Brent) Russell, Will (fiancé Katie), Anna, Meghan Gross, Eleanor VanLare, Michele (George McMillin) Gerlach, Denice (Randy) Sams, Ann (Tom) England; and other family and friends. The family would like to extend their thanks for the compassionate care given by the staff at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital and Hartland Terrace.
