John David Wean

John David Wean, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, died peacefully on August 7, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends. Born on October 21, 1949, in Mishawaka, Indiana, John was the son of Jon Valentine Wean and Vivian Victoria Replogle. Predeceased by his parents and his brother William Wean.

John's education and career reflected his lifelong interest in learning. He graduated from Homestead High School and went on to pursue a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1979. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where he earned his medical degree in 1983 and board certification in psychiatry in 1988.

John's professional journey was marked by his commitment to mental health. As a member of Milwaukee Psychiatrists & Psychologists Chartered in Wauwatosa, he practiced psychiatry from 1987 until his retirement in 2025. Beyond his practice, John shared his expertise as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin and as a Medical Consultant for the State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections. His contributions to numerous committees at Milwaukee Psychiatric Hospital/Aurora Psychiatric Hospital underscored his dedication to the field he loved.

John married Mary Feider on October 3, 1981. Together they built a life filled with music, travel, and adventure while raising their three sons, Matthew, Christopher, and David. He is also survived by his sister, Victoria (James) Hintz, and nieces, Jennifer (Thomas) Janik and Lisel Hintz.

John had many interests outside of medicine. His love for music began in middle school and blossomed into performances with the band "THE MEN". His eclectic library of classics and contemporary literature spoke to his love of reading. John’s greatest passion was the restoration of his 1970 Jaguar coupé. He also found joy in fishing, boating, and the challenge of a good crossword puzzle.

John will be remembered for his intelligence, quick wit, kindness, and devotion to his family. In honor of John's life, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society-Hope Lodge in Rochester, MN. A private family celebration of John's life was held on August 14th.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Froedtert Hospital, Mayo Clinic, and Heartland Home Health Hospice for their compassionate care and support during John's battle with cancer.
