John Steven Muschinski

John Steven Muschinski, 53, of Sullivan, WI, beloved son, brother, friend, and uncle, passed away unexpectedly on April 12, 2026.

John was known for his kind and generous heart. Magnanimous to all those who crossed his path, he had a natural gift for easily making strangers into friends with small talk and stories. John greeted loved ones with a big bear hug and warm smile, and was ready to offer a hand to those in need.

John was a master marksman with a life-long passion for deer hunting, nicknamed “Hawkeye” by his dad for this reason. He enjoyed everything about the outdoors, from hunting and fishing to his favorite pastime: spending a summer day on a boat on a Wisconsin lake. He enjoyed good food, good times, and seeing the everyday magic of nature around him in the birds, wildlife, and pets that crossed his path.

John attended Mother of Good Counsel grade school in Milwaukee. He began high school at Marquette University High School where he played football, basketball and ran track, eventually graduating from John Marshall High. He was naturally athletic and excelled in a variety of sports, even bowling. After high school, John entered the US Marine Corps, graduating from Camp Pendleton basic training in 1992, leading his platoon as the Honor Graduate. He traveled the world with the military, serving in Okinawa and South Korea, and trained as a diesel mechanic. John had an affinity for fixing up cars, trucks, and equipment and enjoyed tinkering around - he could fix anything.

Ever hard-working and entrepreneurial, John started his small business, Antiquity LLC, to provide home renovation services and fix up properties. He invested in rental property and eventually purchased his dream property in Sullivan, where he enjoyed the simple country life. John studied biointensive mini-farming with his brother David in California, loved to grow heirloom tomatoes, raise chickens, and was starting to plant for spring. He was a life-long Packers fan and cheered on his favorite team with friends and family. John’s steady presence in our lives will be deeply missed, and we know his legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family will continue forever.

He is survived by his mother, Vivienne Rayner, sisters Kate Winckler (John) and Liz Muschinski (Parry), nieces Haley and Anna Winckler, niece and nephew Ayla and Odin Blackwolf, as well as many extended family members and friends. John was preceded in death by his father, Paul Muschinski and his brother, David Blackwolf.

A visitation to celebrate John’s life will take place on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Pagenkopf Funeral Home in Oconomowoc.
