John William Hein, age 89, of Oconomowoc, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026. John was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin on June 12, 1937, to William and Ruth (Rabenhorst) Hein.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, John served his country with honor before embarking on a lifelong career with the City of Oconomowoc Public Works. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, he loved to ride his Harley, enjoying the outdoors and finding new roads home. John was kind and gentlemanly and had a big heart for helping where help was needed.
John is survived by his sister, Pearl Mary Goetsch; Barb Elwood-Goetsch; Gayle (Jim) Praschak; Kris Goetsch; and LeAnna Rowan and family; and brother-in-law Fred Roller; as well as many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Darlene; son, Shane; brother Arnold and his parents; and nephew Perry Goetsch.
The family would like to thank the ProHealth Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital ICU staff and the AngelsGrace staff for their care and compassion for John. The family would also like to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Shorehaven, where John resided.
A private service will be held in John’s honor
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ProHealth AngelsGrace Hospice or to Shorehaven, both in Oconomowoc.
