James Carl "Butch" Kreil, Jr.

On June 17, 2025, James Carl “Butch” Kreil, Jr., passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 82. Butch was born on January 4, 1943 in Oconomowoc, WI to James and Ellen (nee Johnson).

Butch was a dedicated laborer who proudly worked at Carnation Instant, where he earned his place as one of the original “milk boys.” His work ethic was strong and he spent over 30 years at the Okauchee Fire Department, where his bravery and commitment to the community made a lasting impact.

Butch loved the great outdoors and spent countless hours hunting and fishing. He was also an avid bowler and motorcycle enthusiast, relishing in the thrill of joy rides that brought a smile to his face.

Butch particularly enjoyed the time spent with his favorite son-in-law, building a special bond as they embarked on trips to Menards. Family meant everything to Butch. He loved spending time with his loved ones and will be remembered for his unwavering support, kindness, and warm spirit.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Colleen; children Jacqueline Kreil, Mary Kreil, James Kreil III and Jamie Lynn (Shawn) Sagan; grandchildren, Justin Marquardt, Shawn Sagan Jr., Hailey Kreil and Lucas Kreil; great-grandchildren, Coral Rose and Jaice Marquardt; brother, John (Nancy) Kreil; fur-babies, Lulu ad Sammi; along with other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Denise; grandson, Nicolas Marquardt; sister, Jean (Robert) Luko; in-laws, William and Mary Murdock.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff and physicians at ProHealth, as well as ProHealth Hospice Care, for their unwavering support and care during Butch's final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ECM Little Sprouts Expansion Fund (in care of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church: W1956 Gopher Hill Road, Ixonia, WI 53036) in Butch’s name are appreciated.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, at Pagenkopf Funeral Home (2228 N. Silver Maple Lane, Oconomowoc, WI 53066) from 4 PM to 6 PM, with a service following immediately after.
