James Frederick Grainer passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025 at AngelsGrace Hospice, at the age of 83. Born on August 24, 1941, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, James was the cherished son of Russell and Norma Grainer (nee Hailing).

After graduating high school, Jim served honorably in the United States Air Force, a testament to his commitment to service and his country. Following his military service, he forged a successful career as a manufacturing engineer, dedicating over 40 years to the industry.

He spent countless joyful hours kart racing with his two sons, Scott and Timothy, and enjoyed many weekends at the bowling alley or on the golf course with friends. His greatest joy came from watching his grandson, Nick, grow and shine on the soccer field, cheering him on from childhood through college with pride and admiration.

Jim embodied kindness and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends alike. Whether it was fixing a leaky faucet, offering wise advice, or simply being a good listener, he was the dependable rock that many relied upon.

Jim leaves behind his two sons Scott J. (Margaret) Grainer and Timothy O. (Val Belawski and her children, Charlie, Claudia, Veronica, Ryan and Luke) Grainer; grandson Nicholas R. Grainer; along with many other cherished family members and friends.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Kay; his parents; sister Geri Schuster; and niece Doni Jo Hoban.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at AngelsGrace Hospice and the dedicated nurses and doctors at Aurora Summit Hospital, especially Kenzie and Rylee, whose compassion and care provided comfort to Jim and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to AngelsGrace Hospice and HAWS in Jim’s name are welcome.

In honor of Jim’s life, a visitation will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Pagenkopf Funeral Home (2228 N. Silver Maple Lane, Oconomowoc, WI 53066) from 10:00am-12:00pm, followed by a service. Military honors will conclude the service recognizing his contributions and service to his country.
