Jack Oudenhoven, age 10, passed away tragically on March 25, 2026, as the result of a car accident. Though his time on this earth was far too short, Jack filled every moment with a light, curiosity, and kindness that touched all who knew him.
Jack is survived by his parents, Sarah and Kyle Oudenhoven, and his siblings, Levi and Rae Oudenhoven. He is also lovingly remembered by his aunts and uncles, Susan and Phil Mattson, and Sandra and Jeff Giernoth, as well as his cousins, Hannah (Sean), Logan, Bryn, Cade and Josephine. Jack is further survived by his grandfather, Tom Springer. Jack was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Carol Springer and paternal grandfather, Lee Oudenhoven. Jack leaves behind a wide circle of friends and teachers whose lives he touched deeply and who will carry his memory with them always.
Jack was a kind, deeply intelligent, soulful, and helpful young man whose love of learning was evident to everyone around him. He loved reading and approached the world with wonder, especially the night sky. Fascinated by space, Jack dreamed of becoming an astrophysicist, eager to understand the universe he so admired. His teachers knew him as a student who not only excelled academically, but who brought joy, enthusiasm, and curiosity into the classroom each day.
To his friends, Jack embodied everything a true friend should be. He was kind, funny, loyal, and welcoming to all. He had a gift for making others feel seen, valued, and included, and was deeply admired by everyone who knew him. His laughter was infectious, and his presence brought warmth and light to every room he entered.
Jack loved football, approaching the game with energy, passion, and a spirit that lifted everyone around him. As the quarterback on his flag football team, his “lucky left arm” led to many touchdowns, but he was just as known for encouraging and celebrating his teammates. Jack also had a deep love for music and was always singing. This year, he learned to play the recorder and was excited to join the NHI band next year, playing either the saxophone or percussion. He was also interested in learning to play the guitar.
Above all, Jack loved his family fiercely. He was a devoted brother whose bond with his siblings was filled with laughter and unconditional love. Jack is deeply loved and will be forever missed.
Jack was, in every sense, the best of us. He was the kind of child who reminded those around him what truly matters: kindness, love, empathy, respect, character, and patience. Jack’s life, though brief, leaves behind a profound legacy of goodness that will be unmatched.
In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations that will be used to set up a scholarship fund in Jack’s honor.
