Helen S. Ackley (nee Helen Louise Steinman) passed away in her sleep on the morning of Monday, June 30, 2025, at her residence in Oconomowoc.
Helen grew up in Whitefish Bay and graduated from Oconomowoc High School. She completed her Bachelor's Degree at Ripon College. Helen began her working career as the physical education teacher at Pewaukee Elementary School from 1968 to 1978. She worked in retail sales for a short time before beginning her career in insurance sales which lasted about 15 years. Her proudest "work" was with the many volunteer organizations in Pewaukee she enjoyed so much and where she was recognized by the community, her alma mater and the President Of The United States for her hard work and dedication: Positively Pewaukee and Waterfront Wednesdays, our Historical Society and the Clark House Museum, The Pewaukee Area Arts Council, The Pewaukee Public Library, the Peffer Park Floral Garden and The Pewaukee Food Pantry. She was also involved with various organizations, groups and committees at St. Bartholomew's and St. Peter's Episcopal Churches over the years.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy Steinman Himsel, her two children, John Jr., and Donna Muehl (Mark), granddaughter Ashley Wright (Michael) and two great-grandchildren, Kami Renee and Skyler Jade. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Betty, brother Jack and husband John M. Ackley Sr.
A gathering to celebrate Helen's life is scheduled for Monday, August 4th. Visitation from 3:30-5:30. Service at 5:30 with light meal to follow: Pagenkopf Funeral Home 2228 Silver Maple Lane, Oconomowoc 53066.... take note that Pagenkopf moved in late 2022, so check your directions. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Pewaukee Food Pantry.
