Gail Wozniak, age 81, passed away at Heritage Lake Country Senior Living on July 3, 2026. She was born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin on August 17, 1944 and is preceded in death by her devoted husband for 62 years, Ron, her parents Edwin and Doris Johnson (Tornow), and brothers Neil and Lance Johnson.
Gail is survived by her sons Todd (Sally) and Scott (Marna), her sisters Katy (Warren) Gill and Chris (Bob) McHugh; grandchildren Stephen (29), Sarah (28), Sawyer (22) and Grace (18); along with numerous extended family and friends.
Gail was a lifelong caregiver, first to family and friends and later through her nursing career. After graduating from Milwaukee County General Hospital's nursing program in 1969, she began as a surgical nurse at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital while earning her bachelor's degree in nursing from Carroll College. Her dedication was evident even during a Wisconsin blizzard, when Ron drove her to the hospital by snowmobile so she could respond to an emergency. After years of nights, weekends, and holidays, she became a home health nurse, then a surgical tech instructor at WCTC, earning her master's degree from Alverno College along the way. Her caregiving spirit also took her to St. Lucia for three months, where she provided medical assistance to the local community.
Along with raising a family and a career in nursing, she also found time for several hobbies including her love of quilting. Her handmade quilts adorn the homes of many family members, friends and recipients at Ronald McDonald House and provide a lasting memory of her creativity, optimism, and caring spirit. Gail also enjoyed the water, both freshwater and saltwater, and traveled to numerous tropical locations with Ron to scuba dive. During one of these trips, they discovered a wonderful community of friends in the Florida Keys and soon made that their second home where they enjoyed many years of friendship and the benefits for all of their hard work.
Throughout her life Gail was devoted to her Christian faith and most recently her community at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Okauchee Wisconsin. We find comfort that her faith gave her peace until her final day.
The family would like to thank the countless extended family and friends for their unwavering support during this difficult time and wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Heritage Lake Country Senior Living and Brighton Hospice Wisconsin for their devotion and compassionate care of Gail.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Ronald McDonald House are welcome.
