Charliene Louise Schweder

Charliene "Char" Louise Schweder, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born on January 2, 1939, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Charliene was the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (Yopps). She was raised in Waukesha, where she attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from Waukesha High School with the Class of 1957. She often reminisced about her school years, cherishing the lifelong friendships she made, and the many evenings spent dancing with friends at The Attic in downtown Waukesha.

After high school, Charliene met Fred Schweder on a blind date. The two were married in January 1961 and built a life centered on family, love, and devotion. Charliene dedicated herself to raising their three children: David, Suzie, and Jennifer, as a stay-at-home mother, providing unwavering love, guidance, and support. Her family was always her greatest priority, and later in life she found the same joy in spoiling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Charliene enjoyed life's simple pleasures and had a spirit of adventure. She especially loved family camping trips, where many cherished memories were made. She was an avid fan of motorsports and enjoyed watching both INDYCAR and NASCAR racing whenever she could. A devoted animal lover, Charliene had a special place in her heart for dogs, especially her beloved companion, Jackson. She was also an enthusiastic reader with a particular fondness for mystery novels, often becoming immersed in a good book. In her later years, she enjoyed many memorable trips to Ho-Chunk Casino with close friends, creating lasting friendships and treasured memories.

Above all, Charliene treasured her role as a grandmother. Her grandchildren brought immense happiness to her life, and she delighted in celebrating their accomplishments and sharing special moments with them. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the unconditional love she gave to those around her. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply.

Charliene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred Schweder; her daughter, Jennifer Schweder; her parents, Joseph and Dorothy Yopps and her sister, Carolyn Yopps

She is lovingly survived by her son, David Schweder; her daughter, Suzie (Brian) Guy; her grandchildren, Kallan Green, Emilee Guy, and Lauryn Guy; her brother, Paul (Ellen) Yopps; her special goddaughter and niece, Becky (Chuck) Maercklein; as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Evin of Oconomowoc providing Charliene with a warm, welcoming, and enjoyable place to call home. They also wish to thank the physicians, nurses, and staff at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care and support during her final days.

Charliene will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love she shared, the kindness she showed, and the lasting impact she made on the lives of all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Charliene’s name to the Dementia Society of America.
