Caroline Greer, 90, died at her home on July 2, 2025, surrounded by love and family. Born in Newark, NJ on November 11, 1934, and raised in Millburn, NJ, Caroline graduated from Millburn High School class of 1952 and attended Western College for Women in Ohio. In 1955 she married her high school sweetheart, and together they made their home in Basking Ridge, NJ.
Caroline’s life centered around her family. She carried on the traditions of her own family, and lovingly adopted the tradition of her husband’s Norwegian roots. Family reunions every year with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and second and third cousins at her uncle’s daffodil farm in upstate New York, and another uncle’s home in Princeton, NJ always brought her great joy. Holidays were always special. She put great effort into preparing her home for Christmas, with decorations and recipes passed down through several generations.
Together with her husband, Caroline raised two children. Summer camping trips were an annual event. To the mountains, a lake shore, or the ocean, the family enjoyed hiking, outdoor cooking, fishing, canoeing, and evening campfires together. Caroline also made time during these trips to sunbathe in her chaise lounge, while reading a book.
Caroline had a kind, gentle, and nurturing soul, which lent to her career choice as a pre-school teacher. She began working at Jack and Jill Nursery School in 1963, and later worked at The Tree House Child Caring Center. During her 30-year career she touched the lives of hundreds of young children.
In 2008, following her husband’s death, Caroline moved to Bellingham, WA to live with her sister. Together the sisters planned a three generational reunion on Lopez Island, WA. Kayaking, beach combing, fishing, bicycling, golfing, hot-tubbing, evening campfires, and family dinners created wonderful memories for their children and grandchildren.
Caroline moved to Dousman, WI in 2021 to live near her daughter’s family. She enjoyed living near family, especially time spent with her two oldest grandsons.
Caroline is predeceased by her husband William “Bill” Chamberlain Greer III, her parents Albert and Frances Kauzmann, and her sister Bertie Edwards.
Caroline is survived by her children, Julie Ball and her husband, Mike of Dousman, WI; her son Tom, and his wife Susan, of Sebastopol, CA; grandchildren Emilie Williams and her husband Geoff; Scott Ball; Kyle Greer and his wife Dana; and Jessica Taylor and her husband Jason; great-grandchildren Ellis and Peter Williams, Hudson and Harper Taylor, and Sybil Greer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Three Pillars Senior Living Community, for the loving care and support they provided to Caroline and her family during the past four years.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Caroline’s memory to the Staff Appreciation Fund at Three Pillars www.ThreePillars.org/giving, or to The Tree House, 1 East Oak Street, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
A private service in Caroline’s memory was held on July 6. Interment will be announced at a later date and will take place in Basking Ridge, NJ.
