Albert (Al) Leonard Marusinec, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, at the age of 93. Al was the youngest of the family and grew up with his sisters Frances and Eileen and his brother Emil who were instrumental in guiding him through his childhood after his mother passed away when he was 10. Sadly, Al lost his beloved brother Emil in WWII at the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. In 1952 he found the love of his life, Joyce Saari, and they married in 1953 on the hottest day of summer. Together they raised seven children and dedicated their time and energy to their family. Recently they celebrated 72 years of marriage.
Al began his career at Allis Chalmers as an Electrical Tester but after a few years, influenced by a few close friends, joined the West Allis Police department in 1958 and devoted 30 years of service earning the respect and admiration for his dedication and kindness to the people in the community he served. He loved being a Police Officer and helping people.
During the early years of his marriage Al played softball and followed Wisconsin sports teams. He and Joyce enjoyed family gatherings, dancing to polkas at church events with friends, vacationing at a cabin on a lake up north every summer, and raising their children. One thing Al looked forward to every year was duck hunting for a few weekends with family and friends at a small cabin on Rush Lake. He was a terrible shot and missed more ducks than most hunters yet loved the camaraderie of the group. As their children grew older, Al and Joyce started camping throughout Wisconsin and the United States to expose their children to travel and see exciting new places and spend time together in peaceful campgrounds. Al was a tremendous influence on his children and set the example for hard work, compassion, and caring for others. He had a unique sense of humor and was fun to be with.
Once Al retired from the Police Department in 1988, he and Joyce became snowbirds and spent 3 to 4 months in Fort Myers Beach at The Red Coconut RV Campground. They wintered there for over 30 years, and family members would come to visit them and share precious time together relaxing in the sun each year. The summers at home were filled with the many activities and trips with their children. Al and Joyce truly cherished time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren as they grew up. Al also was an avid Packer and Brewers fan and enjoyed it when one of his daughters took him to see a game. He also discovered how much he enjoyed golfing during retirement with his family. A highlight of one of the trips they went on with their church group was visiting much of Europe and especially St. Petersburg in Russia. Joyce would often say she and Al “did it all”.
Al is survived by his wife Joyce and the following children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; Daughter Kathie Devillers (Patrick Mead), Joseph (Breann) Devillers, Emmet and Norah; Son Richard (Laura), Rachel, (Kevin) Marusinec; Daughter Sandy (Pat) Spanaus, Jesse (Kim) Spanaus, Neville Spanaus, Julie Hoffman, Mason and Elenore; Daughter Diane (Vic) Brandt, Tosha (Jon) Moser, Bubba, Layla Fifi, Nik; Daughter Carrie (Russ) Legg, Josi (Gus) Wergin, Al and Claudia, Drew Wergin, Missy Moerman, Char, Tommy and Savannah, Alan (Mary) Legg, El and Morgan; Daughter Sue (Steve) Hebert, Noah Hebert, Bella Hebert; Daughter Laura Marusinec.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at the Hales Corners Care Center, Aurora West Allis Medical Center, and the Aurora Zilber Family Hospice for their compassionate care during the past four months. Your kindness and comfort will always be remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to either Milwaukee Rescue Mission, West Allis PD Community Services Unit, or the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) in Al’s memory.
The visitation and funeral service for Al will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Christ the King Lutheran Church (1600 N Genesee St. Delafield, Wi 53018) with visitation from 11:00am to 12:00pm and a service to immediately follow. Lunch will be served in the Great Room at church after the service and all are welcome to celebrate Al’s life.
