ROBERT “BOB” EDWARD SNYDER, age 75, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin passed away at the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital on March 16, 2011, after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. Bob was born in Grass Creek, Wyoming on October 5, 1935. His parents were Oscar and Dorothy Snyder. Bob graduated from Thermopolis High School, then attended the University of Wyoming, where he earned an Engineering degree and met his wife of 54 years, Connie (Halvorsen) Snyder. After serving a tour of duty as an officer in the US Air Force, Bob accepted a job as a petroleum engineer with Marathon Oil Company. He lived in Lovell, Powell, and Cody, Wyoming while working in the Oregon Basin area. In 1969, Bob accepted an editorial job with Gulf Publishing Company, in Houston, Texas. During his 25-year tenure there, he worked as editor of World Oil and Ocean Industry magazines. While in the Houston area, Bob was also employed as an engineering consultant with Completion Technology Company. Bob loved the mountains and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He had a lifelong passion for engineering and inventing and was a member of the Houston Inventors Association, the Society for Petroleum Engineers, NOMADS, the Houston Engineering and Scientific Society, the Pioneer Oil Producers Society, and Sigma Nu Fraternity. Bob held multiple patents, both personal and joint. Bob is survived by his wife, Connie; his brother, Jim (wife Margaret); three sons: Bob (wife Sandy), David (wife Rosalin), and John (wife Becky); four grandsons: Charlie, Rocky (wife Michelle), Cody, and Austin; and one great-grandson, Cass. A private service for family will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
