Richard Summers Macnally

Richard (Dick) Summers MacNally, of Oconomowoc Wisc., passed away on Friday, April 6th, with his brother David and sister Kathy at his side. Dick was born on March 17, 1954, in Duluth, Minnesota, just minutes ahead of his twin brother David, who he remained inseparable from throughout his life. Dick is preceded in death by his loving wife Catherine Byron Eareckson-MacNally, and his parents, Harold Ness MacNally and Nancy Summers MacNally. Throughout his life Dick was dedicated to helping people less fortunate than himself. He spent three decades working with children and adults with severe developmental and behavioral disabilities. He retired in 2013 as a vice-president of Oconomowoc Residential Programs. Dick was a board member of Pantheon Industries Inc., a non-profit vocational development and work center. As a volunteer for Care Cabs, Dick drove people with disabilities to work and medical appointments. Nobody didn’t like Dick. He was a polite and dignified man of few words who maintained his unfailing good humor and concern for others as he battled aggressive melanoma cancer, which took his life less than two months after skiing in Utah with brother David. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a dedicated marathon runner, a fervent racquet ball player, an accomplished skier and enthusiastic golfer. He also was a precision driver who was so passionate about cars that he changed them as regularly as the seasons. He is survived by sister Kathy MacNally Hoffman and brother-in-law Steven Hoffman of Walker, MN, and nephew Brian Hoffman of Minneapolis; brother David MacNally, sister-in-law Jana MacNally, neice Mailisa, and nephew Michael of White Salmon, Washington; and a platoon of loving McGregor cousins and their spouses and children. He also leaves behind the best lifelong friend anybody could ever have, Deborah Frisk who cared for both Dick and Cathy until the end. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 11th at Pagenkopf Funeral Home, 1165 East Summit Avenue, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. Service and Eulogies 3:00 PM. Burial 4:00 PM at Summit Cemetery, 2911 N Dousman Road, Oconomowoc. Reception 4:30 to 7:00 PM at Rosati’s, 1288 N Summit Ave., Oconomowoc. Special thanks to Pastor Ron West Jr. of Grace Bible Church of Oconomowoc for helping Dick find his way to heaven. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
