Peter Crapo Davis

Peter Crapo Davis, passed away on October 30, 2020 at the age of 79 after living with Alzheimer’s for several years. He was born on March 26, 1941 in Rochester, NY to James and Elizabeth (nee Merriman) Davis. Peter grew up in Ontario, NY and enjoyed activities on the shores of Lake Ontario. His family worked an apple orchard, and raised German Shepards, along with various farm animals. Peter met his soulmate, Linda, at the Harley School in Rochester, NY and they were married on August 24, 1963. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1964 where he was a member of the Wisconsin Marching Band, a trumpeter, and performed at the Rose Bowl in 1959. Peter and Linda raised their two beautiful children in a variety of homes spanning from upstate New York, to Long Island, Connecticut, Michigan and Pennsylvania. In each of these communities he taught his children to appreciate the outdoors through gardening, hiking and birding. He had a successful career as a Corporation Director of Human Resources at Unisys Corporation. After an early retirement, he and Linda moved to Prescott, AZ and he became the Chief Operating Officer at West Yavapai Guidance Clinic. They were avid explorers of the western states and loved to share their “Brown Tahoe Tour” adventures with family and friends. Many special moments were shared hiking at the Grand Canyon, or paddling on Lynx Lake in his inflatable kayak. He seemed to take an extra delight in having his granddaughter Megan at his side to teach her to fish, or look for cactus or lizards along the trails. Peter and Linda moved to southern Maine, and then to Massachusetts to be closer to family. He had a lovely voice and was thrilled to be able to sing in the Old North Church (Marblehead) choir and Festival Chorus as a tenor. Last year he and Linda made their final move to Wisconsin, to be able to spend time with his son’s family as his disease was quickly worsening. Despite the advancement of his illness, Peter enjoyed competitive pool games with his grandson Quinn, and highly detailed coloring with granddaughter Adie. His charming sense of humor continued to shine, even when it became difficult for him to communicate as he would droll one liners to dinnertime conversations, causing everyone around the table to laugh, which he clearly enjoyed with a smile and a wink. His enthusiasm for the outdoors is reflected in his love of hiking, hunting, fishing, camping and sailing. He enjoyed taking the helm of his daughter and son-in-law’s sailboat off the coast of Marblehead. He also had an artistic side and created stunning beaded jewelry, and had a lovely eye for photography and acrylic painting. He had a wonderful laugh, was an energetic dancer and yet had quiet, thoughtful way about him. He and Linda shared a “once in a lifetime” bond, that carried them through many wonderful adventures, as well as some very tragic ones. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda (nee Rudd); children Jean (Tim) Sheehy and Benjamin (Desiree) Davis; grandchildren Quentin and Adeline Davis; sister-in-law’s Carly Davis and Jean Rudd; and will be missed tremendously by other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Megan Sheehy; and brother Joel Davis. A Celebration of Peter’s life will be held in Marblehead, MA at a later date. He will be buried at Riverside Cemetery in Rochester, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial wishes in Peter’s name can be made to: The Music Patrons Fund (Old North UCC Church, 8 Stacey Street, Marblehead, MA 01945) and Rainbow Hospice (147 W. Rockwell St., Jefferson, WI 53549).
