Harvey C. Schuster

Harvey Schuster passed away at age 87 on October 6, 2014 at AngelsGrace Hospice. Harvey was born and raised in Delafield and lived his entire life in the Lake Country Area. He is survived by his wife Marty, of nearly 67 years and daughters Diane Crowley of Delafield, Sherry (Terry) Flynn of FL, and son Peter Schuster of Wales. He is further survived by seven grandchildren. Chad (Elizabeth) Crowley of AZ; Courtney (Craig Ihlenfeld) Crowley, Milwaukee; Bryan (Tannaz) Flynn, Harrogate, England; Brendan (Carly) Flynn, FL; Patrick Flynn, IN; Danielle and Katelyn Schuster of Wales, AFS daughter Margarita Perez de Castillo (a student hosted by the Schuster family for a year who has maintained a strong relationship with the family) of the Dominican Republic; sister Doris Phillips of Dousman, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Violet Schuster and brother Rev. Dr. William Schuster. Harvey attended Cushing Elementary School and St John's Military Academy where he enjoyed sports and played hockey for four years. He served in the United States Navy. After 40 years of employment as a lineman and foreman with WE Energies he retired in 1988 and left his pole climbing and power line construction behind him. During the 1970’s he tended bar part time at Seven Seas and the Colonial Inn in Delafield. As an avid hunter, he enjoyed his hunting trips to Northern Wisconsin, Wyoming, and Montana. He also liked to fish the lakes in Canada and loved his up-north retreat in Crivitz. His sense of humor and quick wit remained with him to the very end (just ask his doctor). Through the years Harvey kept busy but still found time to serve on the Pine Lake School Board, umpired slow pitch softball, was a member of 30 in 1 Club, is a past member of the Nashotah Chamber of Commerce and Veterans Group 40 ET 8. In his younger years he belonged to the Civil Air Patrol. He received his commercial pilot’s license and spent numerous hours flying in and out of Crites Field, Waukesha. On November 6, 2010 he had the privilege of traveling from Milwaukee to Washington D.C. aboard the Honor Flight with other World War II Veterans. Harvey also served as a Commander and Chaplain to American Legion Post 196 an was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and has served on the Church Council. In recent years he enjoyed watching his two granddaughters, Danielle and Katelyn, play basketball. He not only attended many of their games but frequently went and observed practices. He loved the name of 'Great Harvey' bestowed upon him by his great grandson, Cayden. “Harv” is a member of St John's Northwestern Military Academy Alumni Association. He has been very active in the alumni association and returned to campus each spring for commencement and reunions and each fall for homecoming. He was proud to be a part of the tradition of the academy and most recently had the honor of receiving the Grand Marshall title for the 2014 Graduating Class. Harvey lived by the SJNMA motto of “Laborare, Ludere, Orare” which means work hard, play hard, pray hard. He will be deeply missed my all. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Pagenkopf Funeral Home in Oconomowoc on Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
